Low Testosterone Levels can Lower Libido, Creating a Loss of Sex Drive in Men

Testosterone is considered the primary male sex hormone, and it is integral when it comes to sexual function in men. A widespread complaint amongst men with suboptimal testosterone levels is the loss of libido causing a lack of sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, and a lack of satisfaction during sex.

But it doesn’t have to be that way

One significant impact of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) on libido is that patients feel energy levels increase significantly, even within the first few weeks of treatment. More often than not, low libido in men is down to being worn out and lacking motivation.

Male Excel is here to help you rediscover your sex drive. Start today by completing our free online hormone assessment to see how testosterone replacement can help you.

"Optimizing your hormones provides a much better solution to erectile dysfunction and low libido than just popping an E.D. pill. We want to help patients by treating the cause of their loss of interest in sex. If you don't treat the cause, you don't ultimately treat the problem."

Does BHRT Increase Libido?

As you age your testosterone levels start to fall, and the symptoms associated with it creep up on you. Unsurprisingly, many of these symptoms drastically affect sexual function.

  • Being overweight
  • High blood pressure
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Lack of motivation
  • Low self-esteem
  • Muscle loss
  • Low energy

It is perfectly normal for libido to go up and down throughout life, with anxiety and relationship issues all playing their part. Couples often find that sexual interest in each other goes up and down and frustratingly, not always simultaneously.

Frequently, it gets to a point where sexual libido reduces so much that it becomes a real problem. Many guys and their partners (who may be experiencing the same thing) put it down to being just ‘one of those things,’ a fact of life when you get older. Couples sometimes suffer in silence, even getting separate beds, holding onto a memory of how things used to be.

How Body Fat Affects Libido

The biggest libido killer is fat. Being overweight causes damage to blood vessels due to the associated hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, insulin resistance, and inflammation. Due to this damage, combined with the low testosterone levels related to being overweight, low libido and E.D. are commonplace.

Having high cholesterol (and smoking) puts you at further risk of atherosclerosis. This condition is when fat deposits build up in your arteries, reducing blood flow to your penis.

Testosterone therapy reduces symptoms that can cause low libido and E.D.

Guys who suffer from reduced hormone levels suffer symptoms like stress, exhaustion, depression, lack of sleep, low energy, low self-esteem, and lack of motivation, all issues which seriously affect libido. Treating low libido is all about looking at the underlying issues.

If your lack of sexual desire is down to health conditions caused by reduced testosterone, BHRT can help you rediscover your libido.

Do E.D. Meds work If you Have Low Testosterone?

Much to many a man’s disappointment, they find their highly anticipated delivery of E.D medication doesn’t allow them to rise to the occasion and does not work. This lack of response is hugely frustrating and can have a long-reaching impact on your mental wellbeing.

The failure for E.D. medication to work in this case is often because low testosterone levels slow the production of a chemical called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator, meaning it triggers the vascular and corporal smooth muscle cells of the penile arteries to relax, so blood can flow into the penis when you need it, making you hard.

Guys with low testosterone often experience E.D. because their hardened arteries cannot release N.O. very well, if at all. Testosterone helps maintain blood vessels’ health, reduces atherosclerosis, and softens your arteries, meaning nitric oxide production increases, and E.D medication is more likely to work.

Without nitric oxide, you will find it difficult to get hard, even with extra help from erectile dysfunction medication like Viagra® or Cialis®. This type of drug can help some people, but the best course of action is to correct hormone levels to battle the symptoms that are causing the issue. Then you can regain your libido and sexual function for good!
